Bibliomancy - seeking guidance from the Bible
I know of many Christians, myself included, who at some point in time have simply opened up the Bible and read a verse or verses that have spoken directly to a situation that was monopolizing our mental and emotional energy.
A randomly selected passage in the Bible can speak to us with guidance, comfort or hope in a stressful situation.
While this may not work every time it is attempted, there are times when great spiritual insights can be found by simply opening the Bible.
This practice is known as Bibliomancy.

Bibliomancy is a form of Stichomancy, which is the practice of selecting a random passage from a random book of any genre.
Stichomancy has been a practiced form of divination (from Latin divinare “to be inspired by a god”) for over 3000 years.
Although most if not all forms of divination are considered sinful by most denominations, Bibliomancy is quite possibly a good example of a pagan tradition which was “converted” or Christianized, rather than rejected.
There are many Christians who use Bibliomancy without realizing that it is considered a form of divination. In fact, they don’t even know that Bibliomancy is the name for what they are doing, which is seeking spiritual guidance during a difficult time.
There are times when even people of faith feel that their prayers are bouncing off the ceiling, or they can’t even find the words to express their feelings and they give up on praying temporarily. These can be desperate times.
Bibliomancy can help some people during these times.
Just for fun - There is a website that selects a random passage of scripture for you.
